Awards

The Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan Schools Football Association are launching the first ever School Mark for Schools across the area.

.

Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan Schools Football Development Officer Dan Hughes commented “Schools football is something we in Wales and especially in Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan are hugely passionate about. We want to give boys and girls as many opportunities as possible to take part in schools football. This new scheme will encourage schools to put all the necessary pieces of infrastructure in place to allow football to flourish at all levels and for schools and students to work together to establish their love of the game .”

.

Dan who also is an Officer for Welsh Schools FA  added, “We want all schools to embrace this award and work towards achieving the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards that are available. We currently provide Inter Schools leagues, festivals and competitions in addition to County teams from U9-16 age groups.  There is currently great work going on in schools and we want to share this best practice with all our schools. We want schools to ensure all students who are not currently participating in sporting activity outside of regular Physical Education lessons have footballing opportunities – it’s a great way to give an opportunity to play football for boys and girls who are not part of the school team(s).

The School Mark would ensure schools would need to provide leadership opportunities for pupils, encouraging students to be placed in organising roles from within the school whose role it is to encourage his/her peers to participate in school programme delivered by Young People, for Young People.”

.

There are 3 sections – Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. Within that there are 3 levels – Gold, Silver and Bronze.

.

A pastoral awards system to reward participation has been developed to work hand in glove with the School Mark so teachers and support staff within the school can acknowledge the hard work and continual development of students’ achievement.

.

The School Mark will focus on several key areas including – Establishing a Lead Football Coach, Involvement in a regional and national competition structure, Extra Curricular Programmes and media plans. Schools who are interested in applying for the Scheme please email Matt Davies  MLD.CARDIFF@YAHOO.COM

.

The scheme is a pilot scheme with a limited number of schools selected in the first instance.
