U14s – Cardiff & Vale U14s 2-2 Swansea       (Cardiff & Vale run out winners after beating Swansea on penalties 6-5)

.

A fantastic game of football k.o very early in TNS, Oswestry on Saturday. We departed at 5am from Cardiff ready for the big trip North.

The game started badly for C&V. Despite having the lions share of possesion and dictating the play we found ourselves a goal down after Swansea’s only attack of the game. The defence not taking the opportunity to clear the ball from the Swansea striker who was very dangerous when involved.

Again Cardiff took control of the game without ever really testing the Swans keeper. Lots of possession but the Cardiff strikers not really finding the cutting edge infront of goal.

Cardiff found themselves 2-0 down after Swansea’s 2nd attack of the game. A deflected shot taking the ball away from a stranded Elliot Matthews in goal. Cardiff now finding themselves 2-0 now and with a massive task of getting back into the game.

Again Cardiff took control of the game and worked the Swans in wide areas. The whole team playing well and Nathan Mathias and Alfie Gower running the show from midfield. Swansea were now looking to counter attack at every opportunity and Cardiff had a huge debt of thanks to pay to Elliott Matthews for saving Cardiff from going down 3-0 before half-time. That was the turning point!!!

Second half saw even more domination from Cardiff & Vale. Ulrich Emaleu and Ibi So Sani causing huge problems out wide. A free-kick awarded to Cardiff 35 yards from goal. Nathan Mathias stepping up and scoring in the top right of the goal. a quite amazing free-kick which was good enough to grace any final!!!

Game On – Cardiff now had their tails up and went on… Swansea pinned back and not testing Cardiff once. Rich Stephens popped up and angled the ball past the Swans keeper from 12 yards. 2-2. Cardiff sensed that with 10 minutes remaining we could go on and win. Cardiff in total domination now and Swansea clinging on. Final whistle came and went and we were onto pens. 2 great saves by Elliott Matthews saw Alfie Gower needing to step up and slot the ball home for Cardiff. He duly stepped up and put the ball to the keepers right. Game won!!! No more than the boys deserved….. Champions of Wales!!!!!!!!!!!
