Development Squads

Development Pathway

.

.

Due to the ongoing success of our Elite County teams at U11/12/13/14/15/16  we currently run Development Squads at U8-15 age groups to aid these teams. As of 2014/15 season we provide a football development pathway for 500 boys and girls who attend schools from across Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan County area.

.

The Development Squads are run and managed by our Football Development Partners Cardiff & Vale Sports and Cardiff University who provide weekly training sessions for players who we feel have potential to make the Elite County squads.

.

Our Elite County Squads at U11-15  include players currently at league clubs like Swansea City, Cardiff City, Bristol City & Rovers, Aston Villa and Newport County. Our Elite Squads contain the most able and talented players in the County who go on to represent their Country at all age groups. Training and matches will be watched by league club scouts and Welsh National Selectors in order to provide our players with maximum exposure to elite football.

.

Our aim for our U8 – U11 ‘Development Squads’ is to provide a clear pathway for players who are currently just short of the Elite County standard.  The 2 Development squads train on a Sunday morning at the House of Sport indoor 3G pitch and the outdoor 3G/Astro Turf at Cardiff Uni Sports training Village, Talybont.  The U8-U11 age groups will play matches against each other and also other County teams over the course of  the season. The squads are picked to ensure a balance of ability across both Development squads. This will provide competitive fixtures which will aid player development.

.

Our Development teams at U12-15 age groups will play matches throughout the season against the ‘Elite’ County squads. We do this to enable us to chart and monitor progress of our players.

.

Development players who are excelling at training will also have an invitation to train with the Elite County Team. This will give the chosen development players an idea of their individual progress.

.

During the 2012/13 season we have successfully managed to promote a large number of development players to the Elite County team at all age groups.

We have also seen the success of development players recently at County trials. Players from last season’s development squad have progressed to now be part of every Elite County squad at U12-15 age group.

.

We also now have girls squads at U12/14 & 16 age groups and look forward to developing our provision to support our talented girls squads.

.

Congratulations to the following Development players who have progressed to the full Elite County Squad since 2011.
